Q: Is Mychal Bell still in jail? If so, why?

The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal in Lake Charles overturned Bell’s conviction, saying the case belonged in juvenile court. LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Walters said he would appeal the decision.

Bell, who has been in jail on a $90,000 bond since the fight in December, will remain there during the two-week period the prosecutor has to file the appeal, unless a judge releases him. Bell’s attorney filed a motion Monday asking for just that, or to have Bell moved to a juvenile facility.
